Very excited to announce our first show for 2014!
Angus Scotford's For Now... We Toast
For Now… We Toast is a photographic portraits series. It is the first solo exhibition from Melbourne based photographer Angus Scotford. Through this exploration Angus presents viewers with a simple yet quite personal slice of each of his subject’s daily lives – making toast. To some it’s a commonplace auto-piloted activity, to others an almost ritualistic start to their day, each with their own idiosyncrasies.
As a typical loaf of bread consists of 22 slices, For Now… We Toast, consists of 22 free and easy, untroubled, and sometimes humorous portraits. This visual spread showcases different subjects, in different kitchens, using different utensils, different condiments, at different times throughout the day and sometimes with different company looking on. The artist aims to turn an everyday activity into art, and perhaps get you thinking about your own toast making habits too.
This portrait series has been four years in the making. The idea was born amongst mates, enjoying a few cold beers in Sydney after the Faith No More concert at the Hordern Pavilion in 2010. This was a snippet of the conversation
Angus: How much do I owe you for the tickets?
Duane: Yeah Mate! One Forty.
Angus: Fu^k! That’s pretty steep
Duane: One Forty! ONE FORTY?! I’d pay that just to watch Mike Patton* make toast!
*note that Mike Patton is the lead singer of Faith No More
And hence was born the idea for this visual feast and bite sized brilliance…enjoy!
